Steven C. Altshuler, Ph.D. is Director of Albany Psychological Associates, and provides individual psychotherapy to adults. Prior to coming to the Capital District in 1990, Dr. Altshuler was Assistant Director of the Psychiatric Emergency Service at Dartmouth Medical School, and has also worked as an Emergency and Victimized Woman Specialist in Denver, CO. Dr. Altshuler also has extensive experience in the evaluation of alcohol dependency and the dually-diagnosed patient, and has been an Adjunct Instructor at Siena College, and taught and supervised psychiatric residents, medical students, and psychology interns at Dartmouth Medical School. Dr. Altshuler's areas of special interest include the treatment of post-trauma states, individuals with chronic medical conditions like Multiple Sclerosis, and patients who grew up in abusive environments. Dr. Altshuler also provides Forensic Evaluation services for both criminal and civil matters. Dr. Altshuler received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder and holds an undergraduate degree from Oberlin College.
Bruce C. Carmack, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience providing counseling to adults and families. Mr. Carmack's areas of specialty include providing Anger Management training for males, couples counseling and treatment for substance abuse, and he is especially skilled in working with adolescents and their families. Mr. Carmack is a past SUNY,Albany Field Instructor for the Graduate School of Social Welfare, and is available for school, probation, and court consultations.
John Carroll-Barbuto, MPA, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker who treats both adults and families, and has specialized training in working with older adults. Mr.Carroll-Barbuto has both a Masters of Public Administration from the Rockefeller Graduate School of Public Affairs and Policy, and a Masters of Social Work degree from SUNY,Albany, and has served as an Adjunct Instructor for both the College of Public Affairs and Policy and the School of Public Welfare, as well as a Field Instructor. Mr. Carroll-Barbuto had developed and administered both residential and training programs, and has experience with individual, marital and group psychotherapy with adults, as well as providing treatment to older children.
Elizabeth Donovan, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker with 20 years of experience in healthcare and mental health treatment. Her areas of expertise and special interest include working with veterans and military families, couples, and individual adults. Her focus is with cognitive, behavioral, and supportive interventions in treating anxiety, mood disorders, and adjustment to stressful life situations.
Erika Frances, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist who received her doctorate from the California School of Professional Psychology. With a number of years performing Forensic Evaluations for the NYS Office of Mental Health and Albany County, Erika joined Albany Psychological Associates to return to her first love, helping adults and families in psychotherapy. She particularly enjoys couples and marital therapy, individual psychotherapy with adults struggling with interpersonal problems, anxiety and depression, and providing treatment to adolescents, children and families.
M. Elisabeth Grace, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker who received her professional education in social work at the London School of Economics, University of London, England. A resident of the United States for 35 years, Ms. Grace has extensive experience working with adults and children in public and private settings, and has worked at Albany Psychological Associates for approximately 10 years. Areas of special interest and skills include women's issues, gay and lesbian issues, parenting, life transitions including retirement, aging and bereavement, the management of anxiety and depression, alcohol-related family issues, trauma, and couples therapy. Ms. Grace's therapeutic orientation is primarily cognitive-behavioral, supplemented by training in EMDR, Thought Field Therapy, and other forms of energy psychology. Ms. Grace is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the EMDR International Association.
Debra Nozik, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker who received her Masters Degree in social work from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1978. She specializes in the treatment of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, sexual abuse, and severe medical issues, and she has extensive training and experience in couples therapy. She has presented workshops in the areas of stress management, parenting, relationship skills, and dealing with health-related issues.
Steven R. Nozik Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist providing psychological services since 1983, and has been in private practice since 1987. Dr. Nozik specializes in the treatment of adult individuals and couples, with expertise in the treatment of anxiety disorders, depression and other mood disorders, psychological trauma, relationship problems, abuse, anger management, stress management, adjustment disorders and addictions. He created and served as the first Director of the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Program at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. Dr. Nozik has also served as Director of the Young Veterans Program treating trauma and addictions at the Northport, New York VA Medical Center, and the Chemical Dependency Rehabilitation Program at the Stratton VA. Dr. Nozik is certified in addiction treatment, Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy. He is a Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at Albany Medical College and a staff psychologist at the Stratton VA, and Adjunct Professor of Psychology in the Department of Psychology at SUNY Albany. In addition to his clinical duties, he supervises and trains doctoral level interns and practicum students, and has lectured to many professional and community audiences. He received his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
Edelgard Wulfert, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist who has been serving patients in the Capital Region since 1989. Dr. Wulfert has been the Chair of the Department of Psychology, University at Albany and Professor of Psychology (Collins Fellow), and currently is the Dean of the University College of Arts and Sciences. She received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and received post-doctoral training in sex offender treatment and research at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Wulfert has published numerous book chapters and papers in various scientific journals, and her areas of special interest and expertise include compulsive behaviors, especially pathological gambling and alcohol abuse, anxiety disorders, and marital problems including sexual dysfunction. Dr. Wulfert is trilingual, and able to conduct psychotherapy with adults in English, German, and Spanish.
